In this flat in Figueira da Foz, the project takes shape as a new way of living in the existing space, a careful continuity in which the past is reinterpreted in the light of the present.
The building's original character remains the basis of its identity — not a constraint, but active material for the design. At the centre of the home, the volume of the guest WC stands as a contemporary element, clear and calm, ordering the plan and introducing a new rhythm into the experience of the space. The pine of the original floor carries through into the design of the furniture, creating a continuous narrative in which the natural materials gain depth and coherence.
With four bedrooms, the flat holds the intimacy of the private rooms alongside the openness of the living areas. These have been subtly enlarged, drawing the spaces closer together, so that light and circulation shape a more fluid, more connected experience.
The windows have been carefully reproduced to their original design, while the timber shutters return with a new presence, reinforcing the character and the memory of the place.
The brushed brass details, in the taps and handles, bring a restrained elegance, adding a sensory dimension that accompanies daily life without overriding it.
More than a refurbishment, this project proposes a new way of living: a new daily life in which time is not erased but transformed, and in which the architecture shows itself in the continuity between what was and what now is.
